CPRE Lancashire/GMTAG Cross-Border Transport Study
This Study originated as an idea in Summer 2003. Not long before, GMTAG had affiliated to Lancashire CPRE, which itself had just formed a Transport Campaign Group (TCG). There was a general feeling that a review of cross-border travel between Lancashire and Greater Manchester ought to be undertaken, with particular emphasis on rail, and East Lancashire.
With a rapidly changing backdrop in transport it was felt that the time is now right to feed our Study into the current debates. The Study has been widened to cover all modes and all of Lancashire. This is primarily a transport document, though references to land-use planning are made where appropriate
Scope of Study
- To review the historical background of cross-border travel between Lancashire and Greater Manchester and the infrastructure and administrative arrangements that facilitate it;
- To identify opportunities for improvement and to outline how these can be achieved.
