Road Side Advertising
The Fylde District Group has been actively campaigning for the removal of road side advertising due to the 'eyesore' they create in our communities.
Don Moore, Fylde's District Group planning officer said:
"In the many months before May 07, I contacted the Fylde Borough Council Enforcement Officer and pointed out the large number of unauthorised adverts beside our roads. The Enforcement officer claimed that he was overloaded and that even minor things like adverts would involve a lot of work. I pointed out that a council in the South West dealt with such things speedily by simply sending an ultimatum threatening acion and in most cases this was effective (this was described in Fieldwork, our members newsletter) but nothing got done.
Prior to May 2007 CPRE National Office campaigned nationally about adverts on trailers beside motorways. We submitted some pictures for that, (see below). Shortly afterwards the adverts in Fylde beside the M55 were removed, although the Trailers still blight the countryside. One of our pictures was used in Fieldwork as an example of blight beside our roads."
The District group continues to press the council to prevent the type of advertsing, that is blighting our towns and villages, as shown in the pictures below.
