Branch objects to application for 160 houses on green wedge land in Liverpool

Loss of green space proposed.

Following a number of enquiries from local Liverpool residents about their concerns over development proposals at Allerton Priory the Branch responded with objections to the City Council.

One proposal involved 160 new houses that would incur the loss of a green wedge and natural green space, and another associated proposal would result in the demolition of three sections of boundary wall, which is part of Allerton Priory heritage asset.

Allerton Priory has Grade II* listed status. Grade II* buildings are particularly important buildings of more than special interest and only 5.5% of listed buildings nationally are Grade II.

In relation to planning application:
• 16O/1191 an outline application for 160 Houses at the Former Allerton Priory Playing Fields (on the Calderstones / Woolton Green Wedge), the branch objects as it believes that the proposed development is contrary to the National Planning Policy Framework and Local Plan Policy concerning the loss of open space, which is a mature ecological environment for birds, animals plants and trees, the policy to reuse local brownfield land for housing delivery in advance of greenfield, and policies for general design requirements.

• 16L/2392 an application to make three access points in the existing boundary wall. The branch objected as it believes Liverpool City Council has defined the wall as a listed structure by virtue of being within the curtilage of the grade II* listed Allerton Priory, located to the north of the Application Site. CPRE Lancashire views the demolition of three sections of wall as significant due to the value of the historic fabric and harm to the historic form and character of the estate and the proposal has a direct impact upon a curtilage listed element of Allerton Priory.
