CPRE Lancashire awarded lottery grant to build exciting 200 mile Liverpool Circular Cycling and Walking Trail for All

16th June 2026

CPRE Lancashire just secured £245,000 from The National Lottery Heritage Fund. The money will help us to manage an exciting new project to deliver a 200-mile Liverpool City Region (LCR) Circular Walking and Cycling Trail.

The LCR Walking and Cycling Trail will be a new distinctive, accessible and environmentally sustainable 200-mile walking and cycling trail that joins all six LCR local authorities (Halton, Knowsley, Liverpool, Sefton, St Helens, Wirral).

CPRE Lancashire President Nick Thompson comments: “We’re delighted that The National Lottery Heritage Fund has recognised our work in this way.

“By bringing to life pathways and linking urban, coastal and rural landscapes, this lottery funded project will have a positive economic impact on the region and on approaches to sustainable travel.  It will also help to increase the number of people who walk and cycle in the region, improving people’s activity levels and health outcomes.”

The LCR Walking and Cycling Trail will be a permanent resource for the Liverpool City Region.

Nick adds: “We want to thank National Lottery players for their support. This project is set to leave a fantastic legacy for everyone who loves Liverpool and will open up the City to a more sustainable way to take in its great heritage.”

“We are now urgently looking for three talented individuals to help us to deliver on this ambitious project for the people of the Liverpool City Region over the next 12 months.”

The charity is now seeking to appoint an experienced Project Manager, Project Officer, Community Engagement and Heritage Officer, PR Officer, Content & Storytelling Consultant and Mapping Consultant. Previous charity sector experience or delivery of Lottery funded projects will be advantageous for these flexible, rewarding roles.
