CPRE Lancs partners with MSA Live to promote GM Ringway

26th May 2026

We’re delighted to be partnering with Manchester School of Architecture (MSA) again this year to promote further use of the Greater Manchester Ringway Project.

We’re delighted to be partnering again with Manchester School of Architecture (MSA) to promote further use of the Greater Manchester Ringway Project.  We’d love to see as many people as possible from all walks of life using and enjoying all or part of the 200 mile trail route.

The official ‘trailhead’ is located in St Peter’s Square. And you can start with the five easiest and shortest stages, enabling you to build up your fitness for the longer and hillier stages in the east and north.

Group 18 MSA students conducted a survey on the awareness and the use of the ringway and how we can encourage people to walk more of the trail.  It also included an opportunity for walkers to highlight their preferred seating along the route and why this is better or more practical for them.  The survey was open for only 2 weeks and was completed by over 100 people.

CPREs Nick Thompson and Eddy Taylor have been part of the conversation from the start, and with their invested time and energy, a route was conceived that began to link up the city’s greenspaces via 20 distinct stages that required no car use to access.

Two of the key suggestions for greater use of the GM Ringway route were to install a series of benches along the stages and also drinks or refreshment stations for warmer weather days. The survey also concluded that greater awareness across social media would increase use of the 200 mile walk facilities on our doorstep.
