Thanks to our young Hedgerow Heroes!

Thanks to the efforts of school students at a number of primary schools across our area, new hedgerows are being planted!

Youngsters have not been put off by the chilly weather, enjoying hedge planting sessions led by TCV and supervised by their teachers, and planting new stretches of hedgerow at Pex Hill Country Park in Widnes and Woodheys Park, Trafford.

These planting sessions are part of our Hedgerow Heroes project, alongside work at Northern Roots in Oldham, and the Countess of Chester Country Park. In addition to planting new hedgerows, volunteers are learning the traditional craft of hedge laying – which reinvigorates the hedgerow, providing bushier hedgerows without gaps at the bottom which provide excellent wildlife corridors. Volunteers can also gain certification for their learning – either hedge planting or hedge laying – via the AQA Unit Award Scheme.
