Fracking

In light of the climate emergency, CPRE Lancashire would argue that fracking is not appropriate, and that we should instead be working to reduce our dependence on carbon fuels and invest further in renewable energy sources. In light of this we applaud the moratorium on fracking recently announced by the government. However, if shale gas and oil development is permitted, operations ought to have minimal impact on rural landscapes, avoid unsustainable use of natural resources and pollution, and minimise greenhouse gas emissions. Above all, it must be carried out safely.
