Branch submits objection to Turn Moss Playing Fields application
CPRE Lancashire strongly objects to a proposal for a new floodlit football facility with café and other associated development at Turn Moss Playing Fields in Stretford.
The proposal was submitted by Salford FC backed by former Manchester United Players, including Gary Neville.
CPRE understands that the proposals are locally very unpopular. Turn Moss is part of the Mersey Valley and forms a rich network of parks and greenspace with links via Sale Water Park. The Trans Pennine Trail and Bridgewater Canal pass nearby, linking local communities and visitors to the Mersey Valley and beyond.
The City of Trees and Trafford Council together with a range of organisations, including those involved in conservation volunteering and the Environment Agency protect and enhance this important protected green space. Together they have undertaken considerable effort to improve access for Trafford’s people and have enhanced local biodiversity for wildlife.
CPRE recommended that Trafford Council refuse the application, due to it being an inappropriate development in protected Green Belt designated land. CPRE hopes the developer can find an alternative location nearer to where the proposed beneficiaries live – much nearer, or better still, in Salford.
